About Us

I enjoy farming and keeping bees here in southeast North Carolina although the farming  part can sometimes prove challenging in this hot and humid, sometimes very dry climate. I share my farming chores with my husband, seven year old son and two cats, Chip and Gadget. Herbs were some of the first things I planted when I had my own land and I have been devoted to them ever since. They have remarkable restorative properties and it’s this fact that continues to intrigue me as I work to develop new products for my customers. I believe we need to be kind to the land and ourselves and because of this philosophy I don’t use harmful chemicals on my farm. My herbs are grown organically so you can be assured that my products are safe. I try all of my products on myself or my willing friends and family and if they are not amazing and healing to the skin, I don't sell them. Check out my handcrafted products page to learn more or place an order.

My second passion is my bees. Like my herbs, they are raised without chemicals so my honey is pure and the beeswax and propolis gathered from my hives has no chemical residue. Bees are fascinating creatures and add another dimension
to my garden adding color, movement and sound. A warm summer day finds them buzzing happily amongst my herbs gathering nectar and pollen and in the process pollinating my vegetables. Bees and other pollinators are vital to our food production and need to be protected and encouraged in all ecosystems especially our suburban yards.  The average neighborhood lawn has more toxic chemicals per acre than a traditional acre of cropland.  Remember what you spray in your yard directly affects all the creatures that walk, crawl and fly in it and that includes bees of all types.  Explore my Bee pages to learn more about these intriguing insects.

I love sharing the amazing world of bees and herbs with other folks and I do this is two ways: giving lectures and workshops and attending craft fairs. Please visit our farm news page to see where we will be in the coming months.   If you'd like to learn more about herbs or herbal medicine making click on these links.

                                 How We Got Started
Like most people my first introduction to herbs was the pale green leaves in little bottles that lined my kitchen pantry usually purchased for some long forgotten recipe. But they had very little appeal to me all lined up like little soldiers so I rarely used them. When I planted my first herbs in the garden I was excited as the plants smelled so amazing and did not resemble the ones in the little jars at all. The plants grew, even on neglect, as that was all that I, as a novice gardner, could provide. As I progressed on my herbal journey, planting more herbs every year, I came to realize that not only did herbs make our food taste wonderful, they could also affect our emotional and physical well being in a profound way: they could heal our bodies and our minds. I wanted to tell anyone who would listen and that is how  Honey Thyme Herb Farm was born. I now grow more than 50 varieties of herbs on my farm and am constantly learning new uses for old friends such as Mint and Sage and the more recent additions to the garden such as Agrimony and Hyssop.  To learn more about the healing power of the herbs I use in my products visit the Herbs page.
